Masonry Nails
Masonry nails are strong, heavy duty nails which are usually made from galvanised carbon or hardened steel. They are principally used to penetrate stone, brick and concrete, and they are tough enough to be hammered into solid materials without bending or breaking. Masonry nails are often zinc plated or coated to withstand corrosion and oxidisation, which makes them ideal for external use. This will enable them to last for many years without breaking down or corroding.
Masonry nails can be used for either external or internal construction and building work. In outdoor construction work, masonry nails are usually used to attach wood to brickwork or to attach plastic to concrete or brickwork. For use in internal construction projects, masonry nails are frequently used to attach wood to brickwork and can be used for the installation of skirting boards, dado rails or picture rails onto brick walls. As you will need more force to install masonry nails, a normal hammer might not be strong enough. Masonry nails can also be installed using a nail gun which will make the job of installing the nails far faster.
At Mill Timber Direct, we stock a range of masonry nails which are suitable for many different DIY projects and come in a selection of sizes, including 100mm x 3.5mm, 30mm x 2.5mm and 60mm x 2.5mm. Our masonry nails come with either a flat head or a countersunk head. Masonry nails with a countersunk head are ideal for internal use where they can be discreetly installed into the wood.

Masonry Nails FAQs
What Are Masonry Screws?
Masonry screws are specially designed fasteners for attaching materials to concrete, brick, or block surfaces. They have hardened, serrated threads that cut directly into masonry, creating a strong, secure hold without the need for traditional anchors or plugs. At Mill Timber Direct, masonry screws are available in various lengths and diameters, making them suitable for fixtures, shelving, and structural attachments on masonry surfaces, ensuring a reliable and long-lasting connection.
How Do Masonry Screws Work?
Masonry screws are designed for securely fastening materials to concrete, brick, or block surfaces. Unlike traditional anchors, they feature hardened, serrated threads that cut directly into the masonry as they are driven in, creating a strong mechanical bond without the need for expansion. To install, drill a hole to the specified depth, clean out any debris, and drive the screw in using a power drill or impact driver. This method provides a reliable and efficient way to attach fixtures to masonry surfaces.
