Sheet Material FAQs

What is a Sheet Material?

Sheet materials are versatile wood panels that are manufactured from solid or recycled timber, it is then bonded together by an adhesive. Sheet materials are used in almost all forms of construction, making them crucial for your next project.

What is the Strongest Sheet Material?

The strongest sheet material that we have to offer is the hardwood plywood. This is an incredibly strong sheet material which can stand the test of time making it perfect for the construction site.

What Sheet Material is Suitable for Outdoor Use?

At Mill Timber Direct, we stock softwood and hardwood plywood, OSB, Chipboard and MDF sheet material. Marine plywood and our 18mm Paged DryGuard Water Repellent Plywood are the most suitable sheet materials for outdoor use. This is because marine plywood is made from layers of hardwood veneers (or layers) glued together, making them durable and water-resistant. Hardwood is naturally resistant to decay and rot. DryGuard panels are made from layers of quality Polish pine and has a hydrophobic coating which repels water and stops it from being absorbed into the wood.

How Do I Store Sheet Materials?

Sheet materials or panels such as plywood, OSB, chipboard and MDF should be stored flat on a level surface supported along their entire length to prevent sagging or warping. Keep them covered and out of direct sunlight and rain so store inside a garage, shed or basement if possible. Check periodically for any moisture or damage and avoid dragging sheets across each other to prevent scratches. Proper storage will help sheet materials remain flat and undamaged for future use.
