Clout Nails

Clout nails are sometimes referred to as roofing nails, as they are most commonly used for attaching slate, shingle, felt or asphalt to the underlying roof material, such as sheet metal or timber. They are well suited to this purpose as they are short, thick nails with a large, flat head.

The large, flat head on clout nails are specifically designed to prevent the material that is being fixed from pulling back through the nail, ripping or becoming detached. Additionally, our range of clout nails are galvanised, rendering them corrosion resistant and able to withstand the rigours of the UK's ever-changing environmental conditions. Galvanised clout nails have excellent longevity and are unaffected by long periods of wet or cold weather.

It is important that clout nails provide sufficient, permanent grip in any roof application, so at Mill Timber Direct, we offer clout nails in four sizes - 30mm x 2.65mm, 40mm x 2.65mm, 50mm x 2.65mm and 65mm x 3.75mm to ensure that the structural integrity and weatherproofing of your roof will withstand whatever the British weather can throw at it. Clout nails can also be used in timber fence palings. This is a decorative feature in which lengths of sawn and treated timber are installed vertically along a fence rail. They can also be used to secure wire fencing, for domestic and agricultural purposes.
