Panel Pins

Panel Pins are slender and lightweight nails which are primarily used for delicate joinery and woodworking projects. As they are much smaller than normal nails, they are often used by carpenters and cabinet makers for dovetail nailing to strengthen joints in furniture. Panel pins are also used in other home improvement projects, such as attaching skirting boards and mouldings, fastening backboards to wardrobes and cupboards and fixing plywood to solid timber.

Panel pins are much smaller and finer than conventional nails, and if they are used correctly when making furniture or fastening skirting boards to walls, they can be almost invisible when in situ. After they have been inserted into the wood, panel pins can be tapped beneath the service using a punch so they are flush with the surface of the wood. A small amount of filler can then be used to disguise the pin entirely.

At Mill Timber Direct, we stock a range of panel pins which are suitable for many different DIY projects. Our sherardised panel pins can be used on external glazing beads and our bright finish panel pins are ideal for internal use. We also stock a lost nail head panel pin with an extra small head which is easily hidden when punched below the surface of the wood. The lost nail head pin is perfect for use in internal furnishing jobs such as skirting boards and flooring or in furniture making. We stock a range of different size panel pins at Mill Timber Direct and all our panel pins are manufactured to BS1202 standard.
